Want to level up your thinking skills and stop getting tricked by fake news, sneaky ads, or those clever people who love to pull the wool over your eyes? In this class, you’ll learn how to think sharper, reason better, and spot a bad argument from a mile away. We’ll dive into fun challenges that teach logic and how to break down any claim or story you hear—whether it’s online or in real life. From spotting common tricks and fallacies (those sneaky shortcuts people take in arguments) to learning how to think critically in any situation, this course will help you make smarter decisions and avoid being deceived. If you’ve ever wanted to know the secret to being the smartest person in the room—or just stop falling for the same old tricks—this class is for you. Get ready to think like a pro and have fun doing it! Class format: We will discuss the principles in the books, do the discussions and the activities. We will spend half the class on one book and the other half of the class on the other book. So in the 13 weeks, we will read both books and learn to apply the principles in our daily lives. Students may be asked to write a paper applying the material. I want them to practice writing their thoughts and gathering data to back up their opinions. A student can choose to opt out of the writing project. We will use these books: . "The Fallacy Detective: A Practical Handbook of Logic" by Nathaniel and Hans Bluedorn This is another excellent introduction to logical fallacies, specifically aimed at teens and younger readers.
